tomorrow i'm going to see the giants -vs- the cardinals at pacbell park. i haven't seen a game in more than 3 years... old home team -vs- new home team in a beautiful new park... what a way to end the drought.

much thanks to generous friends.

old st.louis friends are visiting

Wednesday, June 27, 2001
old st.louis friends are visiting this week. i've been playing tour guide. i haven't been this busy in some time. one hand, i ache for quiet time. other hand, i get to see all the things i love about san francisco back to back. i neglect them. i go to the beach on a regular basis. no where near enough. well, close... but not quite.

...anyway, it's been a good time - and only halfway started.

yesterday i went to a bonfire at the beach, for roll your own blackout. it was a wonderful time.
big fires... lots of people having fun... and we made it just in time for the sunset. a giant sun setting on an giant ocean never disappoints.

last night, nature. tonight, technology. i'm learning how to format xml documents with xslt. it's very handy. no need to get all convoluted with php/cfm/etc, just to display static data. yet it's still nice and separate and easily accessible. good stuff. tricky too. i hoped to have a little something up and running already. xsl had other ideas. tomorrow i shall change it's mind.

Tuesday, June 19, 2001
e.mail glitch ...it seems as though having all my various computer related things working 100% is never going to happen. i just discovered an odd problem with q-mail at my web hosting company. sometimes mail to jason(at)benevolent.co.il will return a q-mail error. sometimes it will return the error and i will still get the mail. sometimes it won't give an error and i won't get mail. sometimes i get mail fine. all the bases are covered. i'm not sure what the problem could be. i removed and recreated both the alias and mailbox. hopefully that will fix it.

what does this mean?
if you've sent mail to jason(at)benevolent.co.il and got an error message, or i haven't responded, please send it again. chances are, i never recived it. sorry for the trouble.

as much as i love

Thursday, June 14, 2001
as much as i love my imac (compact/moveable/friendly)... i hate the fact that the keyboard only has a backspace style key... no delete (although it is labeled as such?). not to mention an end key. whoever designed it must not work with text very much. i'd like an apple pro keyboard... maybe with a new macintosh, before the end of the year.

Wednesday, June 13, 2001
there are a lot of little posts here.
my website's have been getting much love lately. except one. it's so long overlooked... lucky to be half implemented. once or twice. i doubt it notices anymore. i have a new plan (number 28 or so). something very different. writing. near to a history... but it will have to wait till the future. time for attention outside of self is at a premium. time inside of self sometimes gets regulated to a little breakfast by the window. but that can be enough.

i'm looking forward to having a job again. making things. for people. even though they're greedy with time. it's fun. it makes money minus worry. time without worry seems to extend much further. subtraction and addition. the sum leaves me ahead. i think. i'm anxious to find out. a break was good... not to mention very needed... but too long. if only places wanted people. i have much faith in this internet thing. if only it's reputation wasn't soiled by folks who never earned any say.

o-well.
early morning rambling isn't getting me any closer to bed.
if i don't go soon, i'll miss the breakfast and the window and myself.
goodnight.

somehow cannibalism became a topic

Sunday, June 10, 2001
somehow cannibalism became a topic of conversation today. my roommate was appalled that it still goes on in the philippians. she is also a meat eater. when i ate meat, i didn't think much about the killing aspect (growing up in the midwest can have that effect on a person), but once i did, i stopped. now that i haven't eaten meat for some time, i have a really hard time justifying one type of killing (people) over another (chickens and cows). life is life. to try to arbitrarily place value on it is absurd. especially considering the consequences. death may be a part of life, but the artificial taking of it, disrupts it's natural flow.

...not to give the wrong impression either. my roommate is a wonderful person... i could very well be completely wrong. but, it seems that more and more i'm reminded of how dangerous a thing ego can be.

Don'tBlowIt.org
There are over 36,000 nuclear weapons in the world, enough to destroy the planet several times over. Recently, President Bush announced plans to reduce our nuclear arsenal. But in the same breath, he promised to build and deploy a National Missile Defense system - a boondoggle for taxpayers that could spark an arms race with Russia and China!

please go here and send a postcard to president bush and your local elected officals.

i started reading siddhartha today.siddhartha

Tuesday, June 05, 2001
i started reading siddhartha today.

siddhartha had begun to feel the seeds of discontent within him. he had begun to feel that the love of his father and mother, and also the love of his friend govinda, would not always make him happy, give him peace, satsfy and suffice him. he had begun to suspect that his worth father and his other teachers, the wise brahmins, had already passed on to him the bulk and best of their wisdom, that they had already poured the sum total of their knowledge into his waiting vessel; and the vessel was not full, his intelect was not satisfied, his soul was not at peace, his heart was not still.
