ABC News Online: Toddler twins go on scribbling rampage.
Police initially feared the boys had been abducted, before they were discovered late in the evening walking through their home town of Deols, western France, stark naked and holding a bedside lamp.
The thing about rain is
...it gets everything wet. Sometimes when you live in the city, you have to get inventive to keep your everythings dry (no rush to the door to the car to the parking lot to the back inside). Usually this involves some sort of plastic bag contraption. Today, on the 38 Geary, a woman was keeping her 12 ounce canned beverage dry - by keeping it in a large brown sock.
...I've never seen that before.

Offsite
The Martha & Bros coffee near my house shut off their free wireless access. Now you need some sort of pre-paid card. I didn't check out what the rates were. As much as I like starting my work at home day sitting in their big sunny window, drinking some tea, eating a bagel, and getting my day organized - I don't want to buy more for the minimal bandwidth used to deal with email and visit a few web sites. Especially when I'm not getting my moneys worth for DSL (good download - very crippled upload - $720 dollars a year - thanks) a few blocks away.
I admittedly know nothing about the economics of a coffee shop... but I would think there's much more money to be made by building up a lot of regular customers with advertised free wireless, than getting a few folks to pay for metered access.

The power of tea.
Green, Black Tea Said to Boost Immune System
[...] volunteers who were asked to drink 20 ounces of black tea a day demonstrated stronger immune responses to infection than they had previously, or than a control group of coffee drinkers.
"Now we have a new explanation for the medicinal effect of tea. Our data suggest that the amino acid L-theanine may specifically boost the capacity of gamma delta T cells the body's first line of defense against infection."

Thursday night was the first time I've heard Dose sing Grass Skirt & Fruit Hat live. As always, it was something to see. Standing silently at the front of the stage with an all too sad face. Then singing a song set to the side of the no music of late. Less commandment, more confusion caused by that hurt we all hold on too...
Sometimes I sit alone in headphones and listen to that song. Sometimes silently. Sometimes lost in pacing. Sometimes crying. ...Always when I need to get my shit straight.
...halfway through this post, I realized I often always have the same thing to say. Sometimes all at once... Sometimes spread out. I was a good 200 words into saying it again. And none of them mattered. So there they go. Gone for good. Never to be seen again. But here's the jist... I was going to say something about work... and about Lane... and about the previously mentioned song. I was going to say that life's always difficult. But I love it anyway. So should you. And so I did. Slimmer style.
I also often always have to go to bed. ...This is no exception.
Goodnight.

Daily Times - The rebirth of imperialism - Abdul Basit Haqqani
This explains the peculiar statement made by none other than Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that American forces, which are now in occupation of Iraq, are unlikely to find any weapons of mass destruction. And all this time UN inspectors had been berated for failing to find what the Americans said that country had.
This is, perhaps, only the beginning of a series of open confessions of intent. The freedom of the Iraqi people was another reason why the war was fought. This is to be achieved by planting puppet regime and declaring that it is democratic. It will be as democratic as the Vichy regime was French. But even pseudo-democracy for Iraq is to come later. To begin with, a retired American General is to run the country. Such an arrangement is absolutely necessary given the fact that contracts have already been awarded to Halliburton (Vice President Cheneys old company) and Bechtel (which Rumsfeld had tried unsuccessfully to lobby for with Saddam Hussein). Other corporations are drooling at the thought of the bonanza to come their way.
You gotta give the people something to keep them coming back
The plan seemed dubious at first. Go see Buck 65 last night (after my bedtime). Get up at 6:30am. Go to work. Go see Themselves/The Notwist tonight (after my bedtime again). Get up at 6:30am. Go to work.
I'm to old for this sort of thing.
I was nearly asleep on Gomen's couch - 10 minutes before we walked out the door. That changed when we walked into Slims. Buck 65 can wake a man up. Buck 65 is hip hop if hip hop never had to sell cars to make magazine covers. Buck 65 will take a stage all by himself... Just some turntables, a minidisc player, a microphone, and one of those orange hand-held utility lights (with the cage over the bulb - look in your dad's basement). He sang songs... told stories... and scratched. He finished the night with best 3 part song about baseball you've probably never heard.
It was something incredible.
Personal musing on self shared via public expression - at it's finest.
More than worth sleeping through my alarm, and thereby missing the 8:07 train, and thereby missing the last shuttle to google, for.
And tonight there's more.
Themselves never dissapoints... and somehow manages to always exceed my high expectations. I've never seen The Notwist. But my hopes are high. For a former hardcore punk band, they sure can play beautiful quiet indie popish whateveramasongs.
And tomorrow, I expect to fall asleep in various in-opportune places.
...If you see me, please wake me up.

There's a case to be made for a global intervention to get rid of Saddam Hussein, if only for the local, on-the-ground benefit of the Iraqi people. But we failed to make the case. And now we're saving the town to destroy the global village. Which is great news for everybody in the town, and you can see it on their faces as they pull those statues down. But I'm not so sure about the rest of us.Israel tells Palestinians to heed Iraq
Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz hammered home his government's wish that the U.S. conquest of Iraq would teach Palestinians the lesson that they must abandon their uprising and install new leaders.
"I hope that in the era after the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime, the Palestinians will understand that the world has changed," Mofaz told reporters.

Energy Security? ....come on now.
Yes we do need a nation wide plan for sustainable efficient power. But not because our current energy is 'insecure'... It doesn't need any sort of defense. The reason we fight (and die) on foreign soil is because oil is scarce. Once we've completely pillaged the planet there won't be any more. This sort of 'opportunity' attracts a certain type of greed. The kind that's short sighted enough to trade human life for financial power. Our acceptance of this manor of operation has caused it to perpetuate.
Using 'security' implies that it's not our fault. We have to defend our perfect practices from outside invasion. That isn't true. Suck it up. We've fucked up. You're on the right track to fix our mistakes... all you need now is honesty.
Harts 'Homeland Security' plan, on the other hand, has absolutely no basis in reality. Every American neighborhood does not need emergency medical training, in case of mass casualties.
That's nothing short of completely absurd.
It's the type of 'politics' that leads to time, energy, and money wasted.
'Restoring the American Republic' doesn't start with lying to people... Using buzz words to capitalize on their fears so they believe that they need some one to save them (ie: That Gary Hart is the only person looking out for our safety. Without him we could be dead. Gary Hart for president!).
If you really want to restore something.... ensure that all of your policies empower Americans.
Leave the false sense of security marketing to politicians without any real ideas - and SUV ads.
Bruce asked what kind of non-violent cause or causes might unite America and why Democrats have not proposed it. I can suggest at least three: homeland security, energy security, and national productivity. Americans should be enlisted in an urgent national effort to secure our neighborhoods against terrorist attacks. We can volunteer for training in emergency medical response in case of mass casualties and assume auxiliary police and fire duties. Our people would also rally around a national project to make us sufficiently energy efficient that no American need die for foreign oil in the future. And we can all participate in shifting our economy from one of consumption to one of saving, investment, and productivity. The third he looses comes from framing in fear.

War doesn't bring peace.
BBC News N Korea condemns UN 'meddling'
Pyongyang was referred to the UN Security Council after it announced it had expelled UN nuclear inspectors and pulled out of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
North Korea said it would not recognise the authority of the Security Council, and has threatened to boost its defences, saying a strong military deterrence is the only way of preventing war with the US and protecting the country's security.
It has also said it had learnt a lesson from the US-led war on Iraq - that allowing disarmament through inspection did not avert, but instead sparked, war.

Blog :: Gary Hart :: Restoring the American Republic
This could be very interesting....
Now that America is at war and our economy continues to deteriorate, it's even more important that alternative voices and views are heard. I intend to be one of those voices, and I welcome your responses.Gary Hart gets it (!?).
To further this undertaking, I am starting a blog here on www.garyhartnews.com. The Internet is clearly the most important new medium to help increase people's involvement in a "primary of ideas." It's an amazing tool for people to share ideas, talk about their concerns and their dreams, and debate the many important policy ideas that will affect our country's future.
